BagKeys (ver 1) Abandoned Freeware BagKeys is a TSR that logs the characters typed at the keyboard (including "ALT+keypad" method generated keystrokes) to a file (that the program creates in the same directory as BagKeys) called "BAGKEYS.DAT". BAGKEYS.DAT stays open for logging the entire time BagKeys is running (so you can not read the contents of this file until BagKeys is stopped). To exit BagKeys, type "CTRL+ALT+U". This causes BagKeys to flush its buffer, close the BAGKEYS.DAT file, and unload itself from memory. BAGKEYS.DAT is overwritten every time BagKeys is started. BagKeys will log keys pressed at a DOS prompt (including "backspace" key presses), and the keys pressed while a program is running. Not all programs are compatible with BagKeys however, and they will send bogus characters into BAGKEYS.DAT. Read "BAGKEYS.DOC" for more details. One interesting use for BagKeys is to check on a users typing. Although it is amazing how many times some typists unconciously use the backspace key, the real usefulness is to study WHY they are backspacing. A change in a file name, or changing the key layouts in a batch file, may significantly reduce backspacing. NOTE: Although BagKeys can be useful for logging user actions, it is a software solution that relies on DOS, and it can therefore be fooled. The best solution for capturing keyboard key presses is to insert a hardware device inline between the keyboard and the computer.
