ComRing (ver 1.20) Abandoned Freeware ComRing is a personal network that emulates an ethernet connection through a standard serial port interface. The basic idea of ComRing is to organize computers in a logical ring topography. Data will flow in fixed direction, in one serial port, and out another. It's slow, but it works. A -----> B ^ | | | | v D <----- C Up to 17 computers can be connected in this manner. However, because all the computers are connected in series, if one computer fails, the entire network fails. ComRing requires the construction of specially wired serial cables (see "comring.htm" or "comring.txt"). Although the ComRing packet driver emulates a DIX ethernet connection; its real beauty is that by loading the PDIPX.COM program, you can run your multi-player DOS games across this network, -WITHOUT- the need to be connected to an actual Novell Network. Imagine setting up several computers in a row, and challenging your friends to a DOS multi-player gaming competition! NOTE: I have not tested this network for functionality, but it should work as advertised.
