Username (ver 3.00) Abandonware {was formerly: "free, only if for non-business use"} Username is a program that modifies "EXE" and "COM" files so that they can not be executed until a case sensitive password is entered. This is useful if you want to protect "dangerous" utilities (such as "fdisk") from persons who may unintentionally cause harm. As an added protection, Username will return an errorcode of 1, if a user enters an incorrect password. Username makes a duplicate of the original file with a "*.BAK" extension, before it encrypts the original file. Keep the duplicate in a safe place, in the event that the password is forgotten for the encrypted file. The password associated with a file can be changed at any time if you run Username against the password protected file. First you will be asked to enter the current password. Select "A" to abort, "C" to change the password, or "Q" to completely remove the encryption (returns the file to its original state).
